Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that kills a high number of people all
over the world and is threatening to human life. It spreads easily and
can take a long time to cure. Globally, the prevalence of new TB cases
is still very high. TB can be treated at little or no cost, but a lack
of knowledge in the proper response can be disastrous to patients who
develop resistance to multi-drug treatment.
Proper education on the danger of TB does not require sophisticated
methods or technology. Both current TB patients and healthy individuals
need to learn more. To this end, I started to examine the film /Kill or
Cure/ and translate it in Tibetan so that it could act as a tool for
awareness in Tibetan-speaking regions.
In Tibet, there are growing TB problems, especially in rural areas.
China holds the second high prevalence of TB among twenty-two researched
countries. There are around four million new cases every year. Tibet's
economic development is slow-paced, and a lack of knowledge on hygiene
still prevails.
In this condition, it is vital to solve these problems through social
and communal networks. In previous professional projects, I have created
various materials for hygiene education, especially related to
gastro-intestinal disease. This time, I took the initiative to translate
/Kill or Cure/ in Tibetan because I believe that such instructive
materials are essential for prevention in rural areas of Tibet.
The population density of Tibet is not high, but more and more people
are coming because of the expanding tourist industry and new railroad
transportation. Certainly, this increases the danger for TB to spread
and become a wider problem. From my own experience, I realize that
education in rural areas is essential to reduce TB. I found /Kill or
Cure/ to be an excellent resource that could be translated effectively
in Tibetan. I need your help to move this film into areas of Tibet where
it can be most helpful.
additionally I want to go down to the village and give education on hygine strongly related to TB.
