The Problem

The Houston Independent School District, HISD, is among the larger school districts within the nation. However in a recent 2010 survey, 25% of HISD high school sophomores did not know what the SAT was, nor did they know the importance of the exam. Moreover, HISD houses a overwhelmingly large segment of students that would be the first generation to graduate high school within their family. This combination of lack of awareness, affordable resources, and knowledge is a true hurdle in the academic progress of these students.

Plan of Action

Team MPS is committed to building better students and better character. Therefore, we make a genuine effort to motivate our student for success both inside and out of the classroom. Through scholarship help, community outreach programs, in-school SAT prep, speed reading, AP course prep, and college application help, Team MPS makes sure that no student is without guidance. Within the past year, Team MPS has become an active member within the Houston Independent School District. As a registered vendor, Team MPS has gone into high schools to help inner city students prepare for the SATs. Also, Team MPS has tutored a dozen Advance Placement, AP, students to help them earn college credit while still in high school. Lastly, we have motivated our students to become active contributors within the community. We have helped spawn a number of alternative community service projects and raise college scholarship money for a handful of student.
