Vital Stats

Money Raised: I am selling a few of my things on Ebay right now to raise money. I have about $54 so far.

See It

In my spare time I have created a website for our local Alzheimer's Resource Center. It is a place for families that have questions about caring for an Alzheimer's patient to go for answers. It also offers respite grants to families in need, provides speakers for doctors and nurses on the care of Alzheimer's patients, and conducts caregiver meetings. Recently, the director and I were talking and she mentioned how many children are confused by the way their grandparents with Alzheimer's behave or can no longer do/remember the things they could previously. I was surprised to find out that children often think it is something they have done to cause their grandparent (or other Alzheimer patient that they know) to act differently. That is when I came up with the idea of adding a section to the website just for teenagers and younger kids that could help explain Alzheimer's disease and it's symptoms/behaviors in terms that kids could understand. I have researched and gathered ideas. I found very few books on the topic and even less as far as activities, etc. The director and I feel that there is a real need out there for an eye-catching, fun yet informative place for parents and children to visit on the web that addresses these issue. The obstacle I'm facing is, as usual, financing! The Resource Center is non-profit so funding is limited. The current website does not have extra pages to allow for coloring sheets, book references, or the thing I most want to include: a small iBook about Alzheimer's that kids could click on and watch. I will need extra funds to purchase additional webpages. Thus my reason for applying for this grant. Please feel free to see my work so far at www.wesharethecare.org
