teen group for girls with aspergers

the problem:

I am trying to provide a safe and friendly place for teens with Aspergers syndrome to truly be them selves and make friends. With out the teen group many of these teens wouldn't be outside participating in other activities. I know this from experience and from newly found friends. I want to show the other girls and myself that we are not alone in this world.

why it's important:

We have started with a small group of girls who meet at the local teen center every other monday. We have invited a young adult with asperger syndrome to help with the supervising and support of our group.

the plan of action:

I have worked so hard to get my group started, I have read childrens books as well as adult books and I can say I understood the adult reads. I've contacted people and set up times and dates for the meetings and also plans. I have set up a place for girls with aspergers in middle school through high school to come and interact, play and laugh with other girls with the same issues.

how you can get involved:

Offering words of support to our members and sharing experiences with asperger syndrome.

hey ash4546 glad to see someone spreading the awareness for aspergers, I am an aspie teen, how can i help you?

Hey girls I do not have aspergers, but I am insteresting in learning about it.

If you want to help and meet some new people if you want create a teen group of your own. make it fun and not so "do this now" "we will learn this" i just wanted to create a fun safe enviroment where girls like me could hang out. my group is small with only 6 girls but that was up to us we decided as a group to try to limit how many people are there. not because we are trying to limit people but it would be to overwhelming for some of the other girls. also make it around your age group. we learn small lessons and do crafts and games. my mom helped get the local teen center to rent us the space free of charge. but other places are okay too. you do not have to set up a group but even telling people about it and walking for autism helps. Autism speaks is good and so is C.A.R. community autism resourses (i have a hard time spelling if its spelled wrong) and thank you for asking to help. it helps make my day.

thank you and when you say learning about it do you mean Aspergers or the teen group or both?

Ehh, hi. I'm Sarah. I have aspergers... My mom showed me this. I don't know of any groups in my town for teen girls with aspergers.. And i'm quite sure none of the girls in my school are aspies either.. Well, um I just wanted to say hi and stuff. Haha. I'm going through my first crush on a boy and it's pretty rough.. If anyone could e-mail me, maybe you guys have been through this kind of thing before? I haven't and I have noo idea what to do! Anyway, so yeah. This is pretty cool. =]

well boys can be tricky, my rule of advise REMEMBER TO BREATHE i had trouble with that at first too. and i got on this website because my mom told me it would help.
and i dont realy think that you are the only girl at your school with aspergers because since i started up the girls group i have meet 6 girls with aspergers and a lot of girls have it.
a lot of parents dont want to tell their kid that they have aspergers so that might be why you don't think any one else at your school has it. but you and me are lucky that are moms help us and show us things.
well i hope that i helped. =)

Hi! :)

I wasn't 100% sure if this was for girls only sooo...I thought I'd reply anyway.

I was diagnosed with AS (Asperger's syndrome) last year and battled from isolation to starting to became part of society again. I wouldn't say I'm where I want to be as I find socializing reeeeeeeeal hard, litterally lol, but I try. :P I'm a 16 year old male from the UK btw. x

Hi. I was wondering, where is your group? I have a group for young adults and teens in my area. We have a website http://vcasap.org/. Maybe we can mention your group on it?
