My idea is to start a program where teens can come together to help other teens that are in DJJ in their city turn their life around.
Teens would go to their local DJJ, and talk/mentor the inmates who are also their peers.
The teens that are in DJJ can benefit from their peers coming to talk to them and helping them get through
their time in DJJ.
I understand teens that are in DJJ are there because they did something wrong and people say they don't
need or deserve to have contact with other teens.
But I feel that yes, the inmate has done something wrong but people can change and they need someone who is their age, and understands teenage life first hand to talk to and help turn their life around.
Talking to adults when you are a teenager about your life and what is going on in it, is a lot harder then talking to one of your peers.
If the city really wants to help and change the youth then they need to try anyway possible to do so.
