The Problem

Some teens have closets full of jeans that they never wear, while some teens don't even have a home. We brought Do Something's Teens for Jeans campaign to our school, so used jeans could be given to teens through local homeless shelters and Aeropostale.

Plan of Action

Our club did the usual publicity stunts to collect jeans at our school- posters, fliers around the school and in classrooms, announcements over the PA, a Facebook event, and more. Kaitlyn posted a denim fact every day as her Facebook status during the week we collected to remind people to bring in jeans. In addition to monitoring a table in our student center during lunch, we set up a drop off bin in the band room so people could donate their jeans at their convenience. We held a contest between Mountain View's concert band, symphonic band, percussion, class and wind ensemble. Whichever band brought in the most jeans received prizes and bragging rights. Again, we put up fliers, posted numerous times on Facebook, and talked to each band during class. For the record, the wind ensemble won. As advertised, prizes were given out! In addition to the Aeropostale coupons for their jeans, reusable water bottles were given out to each person who donated! Candy incentives were present at the collection table,. The water bottles were donated by ASB, because they had ordered extras for senior gifts last year. We painted over the "class of 2010" logo and drew a pair of jeans on each water bottle. This year's drive raised 62 used jeans which were taken in to Aeropostale to be distributed to local homeless shelters.
