Texas Emergency Communications
the problem:
What I am trying to do is set up a communication network using HAM radio to relay information if a disaster were to happen in my area. The project includes maps of people with licenses to use the radios, and how far they can effectively communicate, and the repeaters in the area and their input/output ranges.
vital stats:
people impacted:
20,000people involved:
20why it's important:
This is important because people will need emergency help and supplies in a disaster but their cell phones may not work because of loss of power or cell towers, and because HAM radios are self-sufficient, they will always work, and can relay information over long distances.
the plan of action:
I have begun to map out the various locations of the people and repeaters, and run test on the distances and capabilities of different radios and stations. Also, I have begun a list of the people and their call signs to pass out to all who are interested so they will know who to call.
how you can get involved:
I already have multiple people helping me by keeping the records up to date and helping with the mapping process. This project will be designed to grow as time goes on, even after I have left it will remain effective.

This looks like a really cool project!! Can you add some pictures to your post? Would be great to see some visuals of what the area looks like. You should apply for a grant (if you haven't already): http://www.dosomething.org/grants. Good Luck!!
