The 10,000 Hours Show (10K) is a year-round effort to engage young people in volunteer service that culminates in a free concert for which the only admission is volunteer hours to local nonprofits – because together we rock. The “Show” of The 10,000 Hours Show is young people volunteering thousands of hours at area nonprofits to help meet real needs in their communities. By volunteering and registering with 10K, new volunteers make a difference, learn about themselves, and get to go to an awesome concert. People who are already volunteering can stand up and be counted by registering with 10K, encouraging their friends to get involved and rocking the concert along the way. The 10,000 Hours Show’s concert is a unique celebration of service that takes the best parts of “normal” concerts – great bands, great atmosphere, great times – and makes them better – an all-volunteer audience, a community saying thanks, and performers who care. Young volunteer staff produce both the Show and the concert of 10K. They engage in a huge peer-to-peer volunteer outreach campaign to recruit new volunteers and recognize existing ones, and they raise the money and support necessary to create a premier concert. Driven by young people, 10K is a powerful community building effort at the same time it is a vibrant learning experience. The mission of The 10,000 Hours Shows nationally is to mobilize young people to meet immediate community needs and recognize those who do, helping develop the next generation of active community leaders.
