Project One: Establish The Atlantis Organization Project Two: Heading up projects under The Atlantis Organization Current Project (Home): Strengthening Communities with the Community Database System (CDS) Purpose: To give the community easy access to one another. Organizations, businesses, youth groups, and even individuals sharing needs. This way the community can help one another. Many a time people do not help one another because of the difficulty it takes to become involved and the lack of resources to point those who desire to aid others in the right direction. Some Examples of what the system will be able to offer: Boy and Girl Scout troops can request for a fundraiser or other groups can request for aid and they can help one another. An organization or a group or individual may be unable to afford a piece of equipment and request for it. It may be that a school has outdated computers, too few computers, or too few or outdated books. Then a request can be made. To protect from fraud: Imagine the following scenario: Say you wanted to learn the violin but are low on money and cannot really pay for lessons. Well, have you become part of the Atlantis Organization? All those that become a member are registered and interviewed for accuracy; each member has something to offer. So you log on and check the listings if someone is offering to teach the violin, and if not, you have the ability set up a request yourself. You are reaching out for those that reside in your community. All request and aid are done voluntarily and for non-profit. Searching the Community Database: Searches done beyond one’s community are done on a special needs basis at the approval of the core council of Atlantis Organization - first it must be approved by the community council be it can be moved to the head office. The more communities involved the more possibility there is for The Atlantis Organization to aid more and more people all over the world. Rewards: Let’s face it, there are a lot of individuals and businesses that are not out there for the greater good. For some money is their only incentive in being perceived to do good. To help to motivate others to participate and aid others there is a point system. Furthermore, as a non-profit organization there might also be opportunities for tax write-offs. The Point System: Each member is able to gain points. The more time ones spends helping out their community the more points earned. The more points and positive reviews the better one’s status becomes and along with that, respect. Individuals and businesses can also earn points when they donate items. End of the Year Rewards: There is also the possibility for rewards or “Honors” to be presented at the end of the year or beginning of the new year. I believe it would be beneficial to for these “Honors” to be as a pin, patch, ribbon, or metal; in this way one can proudly display their achievements in hopes that others will want to also be just as distinguished. For all those who know the meanings of these “Honors” should be able to display respect for the one who has achieved the recognition. Thus will aid in the individuals within the community to develop a group self - to find their position and role within the greater whole. On the Grand Scale: The Atlantis Organization will be able to pull resources from all over. Communities will be more aware and have another motivation besides wealth. A stronger sense of purpose and family. Potential for growth: people reaching out to people, communities reaching out to communities, and finally countries reaching out to countries. It is my pleasure as both the Creator and Webmaster of both this site and the project behind it, to have this opportunity to reach out to all who venture here. Humanity has the power to reason, the power to recognize, and even the power to predict. But what does all this grant humanity? It would seem pointless to act on these abilities without direction. To realize one’s potential is to enlighten one’s mind. To discover thy self and to do good for others while embracing the good is to enlighten one’s soul. So do not sit around, each and every one of us has the potential to do good in this cruel world. Speak out and reach out, your heart will find its way and in turn, you shall discover harmony. It is a task beyond my abilities. Philosophers, sociologists, anthropologists, and other scholars will have to be hired to complete such a task; however, I do have a list of some philosophers and sociologists that one might one to look at to get some ideas on the topic. Rawls * You and I both will not agree with all their ideas but we can use what has been thought through in the past to discover what we may do in the future. We have ideas of what to and of what not to do. Think of what is working today. Democracy seems to be our best bet, with Rawls ideas on a well-ordered society and a realistic utopia of justice as a blueprint for our democracy is also a good way to go about it. I have two other points that I would like to briefly mention before you set out on this task. First, when you increase equality you decrease liberty. To say that you have liberty may say that you have the right to serve who ever you want to in your restaurant. To say that you have equality may be to say that you have the right to eat at any restaurant. Say a restaurant owner would not serve you because of your religion - that is discrimination; therefore, we weigh the equality and liberty and decide in this case that discrimination is wrong so the owner loses some liberty so everyone can gain equality. And vice versa. Second, when you are not sure what to decide put on Rawls’ veil of ignorance and imagine your position. For example, imagine the United States today but say that there are only 500 people and in those 500 say 100 are rich, 300 are poor, and 100 are in the middle. You know that you are going to be one of those people but you do not know which. You do not even know what sex, race, or religion you are going to be but again, you do know you will be one of those people. How would you design the system when this is all you know? So please, I ask of you to take everything into account. Tread carefully and leave no one out. If anything, grow to understand thy self. Membership: The Atlantis Organization is in need of three or more strong, committed, and knowledgeable people in running the day to day operations of the Organization. This will most certainly be demanding as TOA is in its beginning stages and requires a lot of work to get its roots down. For that to happen their needs to be a President, Treasurer, and Secretary. I recommend that there are some assistants to make lighter work since this is currently all volunteer. Furthermore, before applying to any of these positions once must understand that when accepting such a position they will be an integral part of The Atlantis Organization. Key Roles: * President - Open * Treasurer - Open * Secretary - Open To join such an organization one does not need to devote all their spare time, energy, or money. Currently The Atlantis Organization has not left the ground and so it is all web based. Once sufficient funds are acquired Atlantis can begin land based operations, but until then the majority of the work done by this organization will be through the net. However, this does not limit community functions and/or involvement. Members can sign up to be Team Leaders and gain members in their area to promote positive ideas through community involvement. As a Team Leader one will share a big responsibility in the growth of The Atlantis Organization and because the work behind The Atlantis Organization is to engage in many different aspects of the human world it is up to these Team Leaders and their aids to be creative. Follow the fundamental ideals behind Atlantis and have fun with it. For this project there will a wiki on the site that a group of members will have access to. There job will be to research there works and devise an entirely new society. One does not need to go into complete detail. What does need to be covered are the foundations for such a society, such as the government, economic, and family institutions. I am almost certain many of you do not know anything about Kosovo. No, well it is a difficult story to tell but an urgent one nonetheless. What it comes down to is a people's fight for independence. And in living in the United States many of us just don't know how important that one word is; the greatest fight for independence for many of us has been getting out from underneath the shelters of our parents. As for the Albanians of Kosovo it means life. I urge each and every one of you to go to yahoo news or any other news search engine and search for stories about Kosovo/Kosova or try "Kosovo Wars". Read about atrocities that occurred less than a decade ago and then read the attached letter to our Vice President. Knowledge is power and if we, the people, know then the government will not be so easily swayed in dropping this matter. We all must do our part to protect the justices of humanity. Are we not the Roman Empire of the new era - waging war wherever our interests lie? Needless to say the Roman Empire fell, not due to the attack by the Huns but because of the corruption from the interior. I am not suggesting or accusing anyone of being corrupt; however, I am suggesting that the spirit of our government is weakening. One would think that the United States has it all under control fighting so many parts of the world at once. Maybe the U.S. is capable but is it willing? And if it is no longer willing then there is indeed corruption within the interior of our state (governing body). The United States is in crisis for it is clear that its power is growing weak and running thin. We are fighting Iraq, Iran, and what seems to be the rest of the Middle East. But the United States is capable of such measures because it is the superpower of the world; however, that title is being challenged and with it, consequences. First off, I have been following the news on the Kosovo (Kosova) situation and I took great pride in my state knowing that it saw an injustice and acted. For that, we have been described as “friends” to the ethic Albanians of Kosova. It was a terrible thing indeed to have something such as ethic cleansing occurring in this era. It seems like humanity will never learn. But it is growing and such is the case for the United States. Yes, blacks were enslaved and yes that is an injustice, and yes women were oppressed and yes that is an injustice. The United States is not without its problems but in each instance it corrected itself. What I found hardest to accept was the fact that the United States for many years knew about the situation in Europe during WWII. The United States knew about the genocides and did nothing. Immigration rules were tightened and many heads of state did what they could in order to postpone the visa process leaving many Jews to die. I believe the people of the United States should be reminded, so as not to make the same mistake again. We were on the right step when we aided Kosova. In every sense they are already separated from Serbia but it is not yet official. What do you honestly think will happen if we decide to step back? Everyone the EU and the US are backing down to whom - Serbia and Russia. Well this will be one victory for Russia over the US and that much more of a foothold for them as a superpower. If we back down the situation can and most likely will become disastrous. The Albanians will feel betrayed and isolated all because the US had “more pressing issues”. That simply is disgusting. We engaged ourselves in this battle just as much as we engaged ourselves in the Middle East. Backing out would only make matters worse. Backing out could result in tragedy. Some have said that if Kosova were to gain independence then others would follow in suit. But what would happen if Kosova does not gain independence because the US gave up. Well that would be very bad for them and bad for us as well. For us to give up Kosova would be to undermine our political power. We are going to loose potential allies, the respect of the allies we do have, the willingness of other states to trust within us, and so much more. But let’s not forget that the true importance of this matter is the safety and well being of the Albanian people that have suffered so much already. If we give up, then they are left as slaves and that is unacceptable. But yet, if that is not enough I ask you, are you ready to pave the way for Russia? If you are still not convinced on what actions one should take, understand the basics. Put yourself or the whole of the United States in the same situation. Say the United States is apart of Canada or lets be a little bit more realistic; say the United States is part of Russia. But for some reason or another we decide we no longer want to be governed by Russia, why would we decide such things. Well, sir I believe you know enough of the past to be able to think of a situation. But for this particular one let’s just say that Russia decided to “cleanse” their state of all those who just did not seem to fit the ideal Russia. What is likely to happen? We are going to fight back. In Kosova’s case NATO, the US, and other powers stepped in to halt such injustices. The Serbians attempted to take away the ethic Albanians’ natural right of life. Which is an injustice no matter what part of the world one travels to. Can there ever be any other option but independence at this point? I think not. Would you want to remain under the power of anyone or anything that has attempted to destroy everything that you stand for? Would you want to remain under the power of someone who has tried to kill you? I think not. Most Americans will not even keep a dog that has turned on a human. And if you or anyone else in the cabinet cannot decide, just ask any Jew who survived the Holocaust how they feel. If Serbia had any laws against the breakaway of Kosova they lost those rights when they decided to kill innocent civilians - men, women, and children. So again, I ask that the United States stand ridged towards the independence of Kosova. A concerned citizen of humanity, Theodore Fontana Still Not Sure What to do: I have a few suggestions, but what do you think? I can give you ideas but unless it is something that comes from your heart, unless it is something that you truly decide you truly want to do, it will never be right. Go where your heart tells you to go. If helping others makes you happy, do that. If you are content with yourself when you donate money, then do that. If you love children and are stable, adopt. Or just be a good Father/Mother - children are very important. The possibilities are endless. No one in this world is truly capable of helping others until they first know how to help themselves. Once you understand yourself and find your way then you will truly be able to help others. If we all do this, I truly think the world will be a better place.
