The Problem

The biggest problem here in the inner-city of Cleveland and every other inner city in the country is this disease of hopelessness. Many of our young people believe that they don’t have control over the future of their communities and lives. They believe that everything just happens to them rather than embracing the mindset that they have the power to make things happen. This hopelessness is destroying the lives of our young people which will only result in a downward spiral, generation after generation. The focus of this Leadership Tour is to get our young people to embrace Gandhi’s quote, “Be the change that you want to see.” We want our young people to know that they don’t have to wait for change to come they can create it. The City of Cleveland has been ranked by National Publications as being “The Most Impoverished City in the Nation,” and in “The Top 5 Most Dangerous Cities in the Nation.” Cleveland much like every other city that has a high poverty rate will ultimately deal with crime. In the year 2007 Cleveland had over 150 homicides, the majority of victims were between he ages of 13-18 years old. This should be scary to all of us because this is our future. I strongly believe that if we can change their minds then they will change their condition. We developed the Leadership Tour because many people over look our high school students as if they are a lost cause. If were going to have a bright future we cannot afford to treat them as if they are disposable. This Leadership Tour is our investment in our future because in us teaching the qualities of being a leader and inspiring our young people to have the courage to be different, then we ultimately will decide the direction of our country.

Plan of Action

The plan of action is to continue to be an example for our young people and continue to be visible within the community. We will focus on having strategic meetings in key states to motivate other youth to join our movement. Our leadership does not have to be stagnant, but it is alive and well. We will create focused teams that continue to nurture and support the seeds that we plant so that we can create strong individuals with the passion, stamina and love to continue to charge forward helping to recover our lost fruits. We have come to a critical point in America where the youth will have unexpected and unrequested debts left from generations of the past. Equally atrocious is the lack of education and guidance to help them overcome these obstacles. In our diligence we plan to focus on this lost generation and help them to stand as points of light in the American journey. Guiding them to become leaders will help us to fill that void and reach a generation that many thought was lost. They are not lost, but simply misguided and our future is also their future. We hope to start here at home and eventually take this message throughout the world.
