The Problem

CBT is located in metro-Atlanta in Georgia. Since the last census, this community has seen a 300% increase in the hispanic population and this number continues to rise here and in other communities all over the country. Now more than ever there is a growing gap in the language and culture of our community. The goal of the Children's Bilingual Theater is to Bridge that gap.

Why It's Important

The mission of the Cildren's Bilingual Theater is to bridge the language and cultural gap in our community. We have produced three bilingual musicals and participated in numerous literacy events.

The Plan Of Action

As with many projects, the process was slow but steady. The Children's Bilingual Theater began with letters, e-mails, and phone calls. Eventually we were able to recieve the backing of the Cobb Commission Chairman Sam Olens and he got a round-table together with community leaders in education and the arts. Through this meeting we were able to get 4 principals to open their auditoriums for our preformances and CBT was born.

How Can Others Get Involved?

CBT is always looking for language support, preformers, and theatrical story tellers. Language support is used to help the kids with either English or Spanish depending on their background. Preformers and story tellers do just that. They preform in the plays and do literacy out reaches in the metro-Atlanta area.
