The Problem

The Power is in the People movement was founded on November 1st 2006 on the campus of Delaware State University. It was formed by Emilio Stewart Jr, who is majoring in Social Work at Delaware State University. Emilio formed the organization to serve as an educational speak out session (dialog) among the student body. The program was established to em-power the students on campus with a better acuity of world and community issues (affairs). The program also acted as a catalyst (channel) to unify student relationships with one another on campus. A need for unity was in order due to the acts of violence and crime being displayed in communities all across America. The program was structured to feature a panel of student leaders speaking on issues given to them by Emilio Stewart Jr. Among those student government leaders was, at that time SGA (spell out) Vice President Duncan W Harrison Jr. Duncan served as a great inspiration and influence to Emilio and his ideas for The Power is in the People Movement, it was only right that he would play an even bigger (larger) role in the movement by taking it beyond the campus of Delaware State University. (and into the communities of Trenton N.J.) On July 19th, 2006 the tragic death of Tamar Lasan Smith a Trenton, N.J. resident is what caused The Power is in The People to shift its focus. Tamar Smith was gunned down while walking to his vehicle, the assailant presently remains unfound to at large. . In May of 2007 Duncan W Harrison Jr, graduated from Delaware State University with a BA in Criminal Justice and returned to Trenton, NJ. Only to find that the condition of the city was in a dire state. The educational system, justice system, economic system, and immigration system were heading towards failure. The execution style murder of three Delaware State Uni-versity Students, Iofemi Hightower, 20, Terrance Aerial, 18, and Dashon Harvey, 20, in a Ne-wark schoolyard, while a fourth was able to survive with serious injuries sustained in the brutal attack. More than a month later, another high-voltage shock was felt by the DSU family when a shooter opened fire on the university campus sending two students to the hospital. A freshman student from East Orange N.J. has been charged in the Sept. 21 incident, which served as a re-minder of the Virginia Tech massacre from earlier this year. These incidents coupled with 21 murders in the city Trenton N.J. are what caused The Power is in the People Movement to take a stand, prepare for action, and say “Enough is Enough”.

Plan of Action

The “Enough is Enough” Campaign is a call to all High School, College students, community activist, grass roots organizations, churches, political leaders, and citizens to unify for one common agenda. This agenda is to stand up, take action against the social, educational, economic injustices, and rise in (profilition of) violence in our communities. The “Enough is Enough” Campaign is organizing organizations to participate in our three part plan. Our three part plan includes our school based initiative, faith based initiative and community based initiative. Our school-based initiative will work towards building safer schools, college preparation, volunteerism amongst students, providing leadership training for students, and providing students with a world class education. Our faith-based initiative will work with local and nation-wide churches to provide spiritual education and mentality (mentoring). Our community based imitative is designed to provide jobs for the unemployed and the underemployed. Building and renovations to provide decent housing to those Americans who live on minimum or fixed income. Also to provide adequate medical and dental care for all Americans. We will also provide an outlet for gang members (residents affiliated with gangs) as a deterrent for our youth not to join a gang. The Power is in the People Movement will provide many different programs and speak up for many different (those voices that are not heard or go unnoticed) to let the world know that “Enough is Enough”.
