The Problem
The Summer Enrichment Program of Greencastle, Indiana is and has been a safe haven for low-income/at-risk children for 21 years. The program takes in children from all over the surrounding county and provides them an enviroment that promotes federally mandated nutritious meals, social cooperation, reading lessons, swimming lessons, and a variety of educational plans implemented by counselors on staff. The program lasts all of June and the first half of July every year.
Given the current state of the United State's economy, the Summer Enrichment Program, which receives half of it's income from United Way, will suffer financially. As a counselor of the program the past 6 years, I have stepped down from my counselor role in year 7 to apply for grant money that my program needs to stay functioning.
Plan of Action
My plan of action is to apply for grant money and implement whatever I get to the continuation of the Summer Enrichment Program.
