We are trying to help an orphanage in Valle de Angeles, Honduras called La Finca de los Ninos. Valle de Angeles is a very small, destitute community found at the end of a long, windy road. The people are extremely poor and the conditions in town are dangerous. When dusk approaches, the town is emptied of people and is then immersed with the night's shadows and is too dangerous to wander. Luckily these kids are in a gated area and are very safe from the dangers of the streets.
Although the children are referred to as "orphans", there are only a small amount who are literally that. Most have families somewhere that either gave them up to La Finca or sacrificed there children to the orphanage in order for them to grow up safe and taken care of. These parents live in areas of such extreme poverty that they know they can not raise their children there safely. The children are allowed to have visitation time on Sundays and it is usually families of this case that will show up. Unfortunately, showing up for a Sunday is near impossible for some families considering the environment for which they live.
However, within La Finca de los Ninos, the children are happy, safe, and can be "kids". However, there are 97 children currently residing there who will need their own necessity items as well as books for their library and school they have within the orphanage.
