I am going to convert one car from internal combustion propulsion to zero emissions all electric drive. All of the internal parts that are related to the managing and burning of gasoline and its byproducts will be removed. This means the gas tank, the engine, and the exhaust system will all be removed. All of the internal combustion parts will be replaced with their equivalent electric parts. The gas tank will be replaced with batteries and the engine will be replaced with an electric motor. The electric motor will create mechanical motion needed to move the truck. The electricity will be stored in 12 lead acid batteries. The electric motor will connect directly to the transmission and will create a driving experience very similar to that of a gasoline powered vehicle. The car will be donated to the Vashon Maury Island Land Trust to help them achieve their goal of preserving the rural character of Vashon Maury Island. They responded to this project very positively and said “An electric truck is not only an ideal vehicle to perform these duties but a model of personal and community adaptation that we will have to encourage as we move into a new era of human evolution.” Though it is my project they have agreed to manage all funds associated with the project so all donations to my project are tax deductible. I am orchestrating this project because I believe that Global Warming is a real problem that needs immediate action taken to combat its consequences. The United States is the number one producer of CO2 emissions in the world. This means that we have the most progress to make in reducing our carbon footprint. I am also conducting this project because it will be an incredible experience for me and all who participate. Already I have learned more than I thought was possible to know about fund raising, marketing and the internal workings of electric cars. I am trying to involve as many youths as possible in the completion of this project so that they may all benefit from the experiences that this endeavor has to offer. In this stage of the project I am looking for funds in order to purchase the electrical parts for the project. I am looking for donations of parts or money so that my dream of creating an electric car can be realized.
