The Problem
This world should be a work of art that people are going to want to enjoy and preserve. A place that people can be themselves and have ways to express their true colors. Whether it is upon a stage or in their own personal lives. There should be places that you can just stand at admire their beauty, rather than waltz by them because they have gone unnoticed due to the lair of dust upon them. These places should be preserved rather than ignored; hence the push to restore them. It could be anything from a new curtain for a high school auditorium or a full restoration of a gothic theatre in Detroit or a local abandon library. All those books just sitting there could go to good use at a school library or perhaps donated to a local orphanage that lacks them. Or a theatre that was once filled for plays and such could once again do so, and it would open more jobs to the surrounding community. I feel that if there is a push to fix some of this that perhaps the people within Detroit will get the hint and help out as well. It would most likely add some more character to the city as well and possibly attract more visitors to the restored areas. Especially those who once grew up around this area that once used to daily visit these now decaying buildings; I’m sure they would love to see them back to their former glory and beauty.
Plan of Action
As of right now the main focus has been to get the word out about what we are attempting to accomplish in the Theatre Restoration Program. There has however been talk about possibly getting a group together to go down to Detroit and saving as many books as possible from the abandon libraries. Whatever can be saved will be donated to local organizations or schools that are in need of books and whatever else is able to be saved from the festering buildings. To fund such projects there will have to be fundraisers and, hopefully, grants from supporting foundations and people. Some of the proceeds that would be collected will be used to help refurbish theatres and such within high schools and community auditoriums that may not have the money to buy them themselves. As of now there has not been much impact upon communities but there has been a spark of interest amongst the those already involved, and growing.
