The Problem
The Glamour Gals organization serves to integrate various generations of females through makeovers and manicures. To me - it goes beyond that. It allows the average teenage girl to expand her views on life by learning from women who have probably already been through the same situations. From one GG makeover, a teenage girl is provided with a women's wisdom that has been accumulated for several years and that teenage girl can lend an ear in return. Bottom line, one teenage girl fixed with an elderly woman, some ounces of coral pink nail polish, a few dashes of nail polish remover for the 'oopsys' and buckets of wisdom is recipe for a successful Glamour Gal experience. These experience ultimately are aimed to combat elder loneliness.
Plan of Action
How do we combat elder loneliness? Easily. By having a group of commited, enthusiastic volunteers reaching towards a vision of a community rid ofelder loneliness. We start off, with recruiting volunteers, having them make the 'Hot Pink Pledge' and signing up with Glamour Gals. We then find a nursing home to network with, where we can have frequent visits with. We aim for continuity! Through fundraisers and help from the universal Glamour Gals organization, we attain supplies and necessities to give out and fuel the GlamourGals mission. With the use of awareness events, like our school's recent 'Hot Pink Day', we get the message out to know that this issue is real. From there, we continue our nursing home visits and having more and more volunteers joing our chapter each week.
