The Problem
We work diligently every day to try and help solve the problem of poverty in a small village outside of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. We have a handful of artisans in this village who are single mothers, and through our efforts selling their wares (earrings, purses, laptop cases) online we are able to help lift them out of poverty as well as provide food for their children.
Plan of Action
We started a website (http://www.trashyearrings.com) as well as a facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/trashyearrings) and started to gather attention to our cause! We have two interns starting this summer to further help us get placement in jewelry stores, sponsor give-aways to raise awareness, and increase international sales. We hope to continue growing our sales numbers in our earrings as well as our purses so we can begin to access greater economies of scale in production and involve more of the local women. Together we can make a difference, together we can pull women and children out of poverty! In all we have given these women in the past four to six months more than the average man in Honduras earns in a year. With this money the women have been able to buy food, clothing, and shelter for them and their childeren.
