TreeMendUs Projects helps the environment because the average meal travels about 1500 miles from production to consumption. Also, one in eight people suffer from hunger in America.

TreeMendUs Projects is based on the concept of using fruit trees as street trees. Along most city streets and streets in most housing communities there are numerous trees. But what if all of these trees could provide food for the community. In America, one in eight people suffers from hunger and the average meal travels as far as 1500 miles to the dinner table. By opting for fruit trees every time we plant a new tree or replace an old one, we can move one step closer to a sustainable solution to both of these problems.

To put my project into action I propose convincing cities and residential housing communities to consider fruit bearing trees when looking at their landscaping options.

Others can help by presenting the TreeMendUs Projects slide (yes I have a slide show that I plan to use when working with future volunteers) at town council/city planning meetings and Eco-friendly home builders.
