The Problem

Tufts Timmy, the Tufts University chapter of the national Timmy Foundation, travels annually to Xela, Guatemala to provide medical relief to impoverished communities. We strive to meet the health care needs of the people we serve and strengthen community-based health and education initiatives by supporting our Guatemalan partner organization, Pop-Wuj. This year we plan to take on a special project to improve our clinics: we will design a new Public Health Education station to empower the people we serve with the knowledge needed to live healthy lives.

Plan of Action

During the fall semester, Tufts Timmy members fundraise, and collect medical supplies for our trip and our partner organization, Pop-Wuj. 95% of donations we receive are channeled into the clinics and other health projects of Pop-Wuj; last year, we raised over $20,000 in our fundraising campaign. After months of preparation, Tufts Timmy members travel with about five medical professionals to Xela, Guatemala and set up clinics in surrounding rural communities. We bring compassionate health care and much needed resources to warm and welcoming people.
