Turn Your World Around
the problem:
Galvanized by sexism and poverty she encountered in India, at the age of thirteen, Tara Suri founded Turn Your World Around, an organization that seeks to utilize the power of youth in effecting change. Turn Your World Around sees youth as a movement capable of eradicating poverty, protecting the environment, advocating for human rights, increasing access to healthcare and education, promoting peace and more. We're dedicated to fully maximizing the potential of this movement.

Founded by a teen, Turn Your World Around harnesses the power of youth in making a global difference. We run multiple initiatives that youth can get involved in and our website, www.turnyourworldaround.org, is a unique social-change portal that helps youth turns their passions into action.
We run several different initiatives through the Turn Your World Around portal that you can get involved in:
-Turn-Your-World Mentorship Program - This program seeks to provide youth with the resources and network necessary to effect change. Youth utilize interactive online resources at our social-change portal, www.turnyourworldaround.org.
-HOPE (Helping Orphans Pursue Education) - HOPE seeks to provide all children with the opportunity to reach their full potential. This program works to provide children at orphanages around the world, including India and Sudan, with access to basic necessities.
-[Connect a Kid] - Connect-a-Kid seeks to redefine the quest for global education by engaging youth in a project that increases access to technology in developing nations.
-Shakti Girls - Shakti girls empowers sex-trafficking victims and their daughters in India with a holistic arts-based education. "Shakti" means "power" in Hindi.
Turn Your World Around has raised over $50,000 and impacted and engaged thousands worldwide. Join our movement by visiting www.turnyourworldaround.org!
the plan of action:
Turn Your World Around started out small - raising funds and awareness by baking cupcakes, selling crafts, and even recycling used soda cans - but our idea was big. With the passion of youth around the country - and the world - we have impacted thousands. Our HOPE program has increased access to education and other basic necessities around the world, built a dormitory in India, and facilitated cultural exchange programs. Connect-a-Kid has raised enough to purchase twenty laptops for children in the developing world. Shakti Girls has aided in the development of an arts-based empowerment program for the daughters of sex-trafficking victims, led workshops and distributed empowerment packs for women in Kolkata and New Delhi, and is currently developing a sustainable alternative-income generation program for women in integenerational prostitution. Finally, the Turn-Your-World Mentorship Program has engaged youth from as far as Israel in creating their own change projects -tackling topics that range from the environment to pancreatic cancer. What is most exciting, however, is the impact we will make in the future - we seek to empower a generation of change-makers.
