Turning Nothing into Something

the problem:

In my community, there is a vacant lot where a gas station used to be. It has been sitting there for over two years, and I think we need to do something with it. What I want to do is plant local oak trees, and make it a good place to just hang out. No fancy playground equipment--just nature. Maybe even some locally-grown produce.

why it's important:

This is important because right now it's just an ugly lot. There are a lot of eucalyptus trees in my area, but they are not native to here. I want to plant oak trees because they are native, and support more native species that are being driven out by foreign lawns and various exotic, "pretty" plants. Trees also eat up carbon dioxide, and global warming is a very important issue to me.

the plan of action:

I am going to find out who owns the lot, and make a pitch for my idea. No one has even made any plans for what this is going to be, and I want to get things moving.
