UNIFIED!
GLSEN’s Safe Prom for All
GLSEN Pittsburgh is proud to promote healthy, safe, unique events that bring together the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Communities. Beginning this year, we are re-imaging our signature event - The Safe Prom for All - and Board Members and volunteers are working together to make it happen.
_Mission:_
GLSEN Pittsburgh’s Safe Prom for All is an outlet for the GLBT youth community - it’s friends, allies and peers - to come together to celebrate in a safe environment that is free from harassment, name calling and bias based on sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
_Purpose:_
The purpose of the Safe Prom for All is to provide all students who fear harassment, rejection and outing with a celebratory, safe experience. We also hope to raise awareness and acceptance in the community of the vital issue of diversity.
_The Prom:_
Our theme - UNIFIED! - will truly typify a number of elements that come together as a single unit. We will host students from all areas of Allegheny County, Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina at the event - UNIFIED! Our prom is an empowering experience for students who have felt powerless in the past. Our venue is Heinz Field, a place where the diversity of our community is on regular view through the team spirit displayed by Steelers and Panthers fans - UNIFIED! It’s also a place where guests can see our spectacular skyline and the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers which form the Ohio. Three rivers - UNIFIED!
Our party plans include a formal dinner, a DJ and a nationally known entertainer.
GLSEN Pittsburgh is proud to sponsor UNIFIED! where young people can come together to celebrate this important milestone in their lives - their graduation - in a safe, nuturing environment without fear of harassment.
