The Problem

In the poverty-stricken area of Chimalhuacan, Mexico, most children cannot afford shoes, and while soccer (or futbol) is a passion for them, many have never played with any form of organization. By participating in the mission trip organized by United Futbol Ministries (http://coachwelias.wordpress.com/), I hope to help spread my knowledge of the game to the participating church youth, and to allow them the opportunity to play organized futbol in a full uniform (all dontated by members of the community). To date (since 2005), over $15,000 of equipment has been donated and given directly to the youth of the Chimalhuacan area.

Plan of Action

Through the collection of donated soccer equipment and the knowledge and expertise in soccer training of the members United Futbol Ministries (joining spiritual faith and the game of soccer), we will take our one week mission trip to the Chimalhuacan/Mexico City area. The churches that have already signed on to be a part of our program for the 2011 summer will be given completely free soccer training and organized games over the week. In addition, all participating youth players will be given a complete uniform, including jersey, shorts, socks, shin-guards, and cleats (all coming from the donations received and collected throughout the year). All work by trainers and interpreters will be volunteer, as we look to better ourselves, our relationships with others, and our relationships with God.
