The Problem

Mozambique is one of the ten poorest countries in the world. Verdade (translation: Truth) believes that the people of this country shouldn't be forced to choose between getting the news and buying bread. Access to real information is a right that everyone should have.

Why It's Important

Verdade creates and distributes 50,000 newspapers every week for the capital city of Maputo and the surrounding area. Roughly 300,000 people read the free paper every week.

The Plan Of Action

I have helped in the following ways: 1. Created a more organized and streamlined MS Access database to help with distribution. 2. Provided training to staff for website maintenance. 3. Updated sections of the site and assisted with online web strategy 4. Developed an SMS strategy for increased content delivery. 5. Personally delivered 1,400 Verdade papers. 6. Wrote 2 articles.

How Can Others Get Involved?

http://www.verdade.co.mz I will be creating a facebook fan page very soon and will post it here. Becoming aware of this paper and more importantly a greater understanding of Africa is the best starting point. Google Mozambique or Tanzania right now...
