Center for Cultural Studies & Volunteering-Nepal (CCSV-Nepal) is a Not for profit Organization committed in promoting and facilitating Volunteering in Nepal. We aim to provide humanitarian aid to local communities within Nepal through volunteerism, advocacy, and education. We endeavor to help women and children in underdeveloped communities to develop knowledge and skills that they can use to improve their lives and the lives of other in their communities, schools and local organizations. Our program offers a unique opportunity for interested individuals, couples, groups and organizations to make a contribution to Nepali society, while simultaneously experiencing the rich culture and difference aspect of urban and rural life in Nepal, one of the most beautiful and diverse countries of the world. The degree to which volunteers contribute to Nepali communities varies according to motivation and personal capacity; however, no experience is necessary and we strongly encourage all applicants. We have several choices of program for Volunteering such as: Teaching English Program-Volunteers will be placed in government, community, Simi private, or boarding schools to teach English to Nepali children between the ages of 5 to 16 years of age. Orphanage Program- this is a wonderful chance for volunteers to interact and learn from Nepali children, by helping with their day-to-day Activities. Medical Health & Education Program-Qualified medical students, doctors, nurses will work in large general hospitals, maternity clinks, children’s hospitals, HIV/AIDS wards, alternative medicine clinics, and rural health posts in and around Kathmandu valley. Teaching English in Monasteries For those looking for cultural immersion, there is a unique opportunity teaching English in Nepal to Buddhist monks in the serene surroundings of a monastery…. Environmental Awareness Program-Volunteers can create or help with projects that educate local communities on environmental issues. School & Community Maintenance In this program Volunteers will have the opportunity to help in a wide range of practical village-based projects. These projects could be as basic as painting or plastering, but those with additional skills may be able to help in more advanced work. Culture Exchange/Home Stay Program-Short-term volunteers can enjoy the mystical culture of Nepal by staying with a local host family who will share the traditions, food, language, and overall lifestyle that makes Nepal such a fascinating country. Woman’s Empowerment Program-For those interested in women‘s issues, they can work within locally dynamic organizations dedicated to uplifting women through counseling, income generating programs, and education. Location: Placements are available in the Kathmandu and Pokhara Valleys. The exact location of your placement is finalised during the training. Project placement also takes into consideration: · Your skills and preferences · The needs and requirements of the schools · Seasonal weather patterns Project Life: You will be met at the airport by a representative of your guesthouse and taken back to your accommodation. All volunteers will receive initial training after arriving in Kathmandu. The training is designed to help you settle into Nepal and to ensure you are fully prepared for your volunteer placement: A typical training period is as follows: Phase - I Day 1 – 2 the first two days will be spent with other volunteers in CCSV-Nepal Kathmandu Training includes: - Nepali cultural orientation / general cultural exchange- The people of Nepal and their caste system - Basic Nepali language classes - Language and Skills Activities - Sightseeing Phase - II Days 3 – 7 Based in a rural village, this provides an insight into Nepali village life Training includes language classes, living with local families, eating traditional food, observing village culture and getting a general feel for the lifestyle. During this time, you will also visit several you will also have chance to visit several projects and placement. Accommodation and Food: · Volunteers shared accommodation is provided either with a host family, in a shared house or in a hostel. · Volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping bag. · Two meals a day are provided as part of the programme - lunch, and dinner. · Everyday, tea is served in the morning and afternoonn · Food will be healthy, nutritious, and locally sourced. Dates and Duration: · The programme starts on the 1st and 15th day of each month. (Year-Round) · You can volunteer from 2 weeks to 5 months. If you wish to volunteer for a short period, your initial training period will be shorter than described above. · Due to exams and festivals, school schedules are normally disrupted during March and April and September – November, so it is recommended that you choose another project during these times. See Other Programs Flights and Transportation: · Flights are not included. · You need to book your flight to the international airport of Kathmandu, where you will be met and taken to start your training programme. Eligibility & Skills Required: · You do not need any formal teacher training or experience to participate, but whatever experience you do have will be taken into account when arranging your day-to-day activities. · A good command of oral and written English · Volunteers need to be independent, enthusiastic and adaptable, hard-working with an open-minded attitude.
