The Problem
There are many people in our world that do not fit into our social norms. People that need extra support and help from others to strive in our face-paced world. Often times, people with disabilities are looked down upon - because people are scared or nervous to interact with them. Our mission is to bridge that gap and allow people with disabilities to have the same experience that people without disabilities would have.
Plan of Action
Every year, we have 100 or so staff and up to 20 volunteers per week that come to volunteer at our winter and summer camps, to help our people with disabilities. Our volunteers work directly with our campers to help them with our camp activities and to keep them having fun.We are looking for volunteers to help us with our Winter Camp (Dec 26-31) and Summer Camp Session! We serve adults and children with developmental disabilities, and we're looking for people that want to spend part of their break working with our campers!
Food, lodging and training provided during stay. No experience necessary
Volunteers work with our professional staff and up to 20 campers - helping them with such things as: playing games, doing puzzles, sports, arts and crafts, swimming and music. Volunteers help set up meals, engage campers in activities, and get to know our staff and campers. While they are at camp, they act as assistant counselors.
If interested, please visit our website for an application or call/email Samantha at 952.852.0113 – volunteers@friendshipventures.org! Dates for Summer Camp: June 4-August 12th. Volunteers usually come on a Saturday and stay until a Friday – you can choose which week you come. Volunteers must be at least 14 and can be up to any age. Come with friends or by yourself!
Great way to earn service hours, gain a valuable reference for employment, or just have fun during the summer.
