the problem:
Destruction from hurricane Katrina and Gustov including, homes, churches, communities, and even beaches. We are trying to help people put there lives back togeather years later when the help is still needed more than ever. Homes are still laying in ruins. personal items are still strewn about yards and lives lay in shambles. We come and help with whatever needs to be done; painting, building, putting down floors, sealing, moving debris, and clean-up.

Two years ago I heard about this trip that people my age had been going on and helping victems of Katrina. As soon as i heard that people still needed help i was hooked. i joined onto the trip as soon as possible. i took a week out of my summer to go with my group to Waveland Mississippi and everyday we would work either at the volunteer camps or on site in the feild helping victems. After putting these kind loving souls before myself and being able to help in any way possible made me so happy. Hearing their stories was heartbreaking but knowing that they were so greatful for us being there had me crying with them. My mission group became my family during that week and i learned so much about caring, giving, and loving. Learning about the destruction and everything that had been done and all thats still left to do i returned the next year and i plan to return every year in the future.
the plan of action:
Throughout the year the fellowship at the church in hanover, that the trip is organized out of, has fundraising underway. Each year we hold car washes, have bake sales, hold concerts, and sell chocolates as well as accept donations and stockholder offers. Last year we raised enough to have everyone go on the trip free of charge and had enough money left over for extra funding for the trip. We take a flight down there and stay at a church that serves as a volunteer camp. Personally i have fundraised, spread the word, supported and taken this trip for two consecutive years, and offer all the assistance i can while im there. Our Trips has been part of the reconstruction of so many lives effected by Katrina. We have built homes, completed work on homes underway, we have built quonset huts for volunteers, and so much more.
how you can get involved:
Others can help by joining the cause of helping fund the trip.
