Plumpy’nut is our passion. For those of you that may not be familiar with this strange name, Plumpy’nut has been recognized as “Africa’s miracle food”. It is a mixture of peanut paste, vegetable oil, powdered milk formula and essential vitamins and minerals. It was created to provide severely malnourished children with a high energy and high protein packed food.
In 2007, the first ever Walk for Plumpy'nut was established by a dedicated group of the self - proclaimed "Plumpy'nut Fanatics". The original goal for this walk was to raise $2,000. However, in our first year alone, we were able to more than double that goal! The walk was a huge success due to the efforts of a student committee that dubbed themselves the “Plumpy’nut Fanatics”. Because of their tireless work and the guidance of adult mentors, we raised over $5,000 through the generosity of corporate sponsors and individual walkers. Through the money raised from the walk, we were able to save the lives of 300 children in Ethiopia from malnutrition! Preparation for the 2008 Walk is already underway.
Building on the success of our first walk, the Plumpy’nut Committee has decided to expand our work and become involved in tackling more global initiatives. We have recently established “Food for Thought, Inc.”, a registered not-for profit-organization. We are dedicated to raising money and awareness for childhood malnutrition and education.
