The Problem

Between 2004 and 2007, nearly 1,300 North Carolina residents ages 10 to 24 died as a result of violence. Of those, 544 were suicide related. Annually, across the United States a teen commits suicide every 11 minutes. These tragedies are 100% preventable. Most suicide related deaths the victim was suffering from a treatable mental illness.

Plan of Action

I want to rally the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students of my school together for an informational rally and awareness walk. Nearly 300 students will take part in learning about the warning signs of suicide and how to take action. These students will then walk around the local area distributing information and awareness to the community. The event will take place during Youth Service Week, April 21-27, 2013.
