The Problem
I'm trying my best to let people know that just because news from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is no longer seen everyday on TV doesn't mean that the fight is over.
The oil by itself has killed thousands of different types of birds, sea turtles, and many sea mammals. Along with the oil, the dispertants used to clean it up is also toxic to the animals.
All of the lethal chemicals floating around the Gulf of Mexico will work its way through the whole food chain poisoning more and more animals everyday causing them to become sick and spread defects to their young.
Its very important that these animals are given as much attention and care as possible so they can avoid becoming endangered and maybe even extinct.
In order to assure the animal's safety, it's important that the organizations that help rehabilitate them have as many resources as they need to help our wildlife in case of future accidents, like the oil spill.
Plan of Action
My plan of action is to organize a walk-a-thon to be held on Saturday February 12th, 2011.
This walk-a-thon will raise money for the International Bird Rescue Research Center and also for the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program, two organizations that have worked very hard to rehabilitate and release animals affected by the Gulf oil spill.
