In October, our Do Something Club collected promoted the awareness of helping the needy. We did two things to promote this.
The first thing we did was collect candy for local Chicago area food pantries and/or Churches that are affiliated with food banks and pantries. Candy can be a special treat for the needy. It's a luxury almost-something we take for granted. The students at May Watts (our elementary school) collected all kinds of candy-you name it-we probably had it-355 lbs of it that is! Our goal was to collect 200 lbs and we nearly doubled that.
Next, we collected winter clothing articles for a local Church. The Church then distributed these necessary clothing articles to men, women, and children who needed them. We collected all kinds of winter gear from our school. Students at May Watts donated gently worn coats, boots, gloves, hats, scarves, earmuffs, and hoodies. What a great way to start the winter season by giving those in need something very very important.
