The reason why many of the students do not have time to work on English literacy skills is because of their homework load. The weekend MBST project is designed specifically for those students having trouble in the reading and writing portion of the Minnesota Basic Standard Tests.
This project is designed specifically for the weekends so the students do not have to worry about their homework. Rather, they can strictly focus on passing the Minnesota Basic Standards Test.
This project also stays true to the philosophy and values of the Jane Addams School for Democracy. It will have a social exchange time where the students and tutors can share post high school experiences. The students will think of a career path as a sub assignment and the tutor, being more experienced, will research that career path and help guide the students. This sub assignment is to give drive and purpose for the students to pass their basic standard testings.
