The Problem

Weighted blankets can help kids with Autism to focus and calm down. But they are not affordable for many families. I am finding ways to make the blankets available to needy families through schools and medical facilities where they can try them out with the option of keeping them if they are helpful. The UCD Medical Center MIND Institute and Shriner's Hospital will be the first facilities to receive the blankets.

Plan of Action

Get grants and funding to cover the costs of the pellets, shipping, and other items that are not donated. Work with the community to get donations of fabric and notions. Work with more members of the community to get sewing "muscle" as my local sewing guild calls it. Identify locations in my community, region, state, and nation where we can provide the blankets to those that need them for trial and as a "gift" when appropriate.
