The Problem
In the Wishi community, children are not provided with the opportunity for a formal education and thus their lives are very difficult. The mission of the Wishi Project is to establish a primary school for the children of the Wishi Community in Ecuador, providing them with a basic education and helping to preserve the indigenous Shuar language and culture.
Plan of Action
I organized a school supplies drive, a back pack drive, and collected enough money from my church to pay for 50 Spanish children's books, a teachers' salary for a year, and the furnishing of a classroom. Many fundraising events have been organized including art shows, fundraisers at schools, and more. To complete the construction of the school and pay for other necessary aspects of the project, $20,000 is needed. So far, we have raised $11,000. One important cost is the shipping of all of the collected supplies to Ecuador (30 backpacks FULL of school supplies) which is $500.
