The Problem
My aspiration to provide clean water to a needy location first began four years ago when I was 13. I decided to plan a Fall Festival in which all the money raised went towards giving a water well to a desperate location. While planning, I found a specific water well at a Congo Children's Center that needed to be replaced. By providing this well, children's morality rate will increase and disease will not spread as rapidly.
Plan of Action
The Wishing for Water fundraiser would not have been possible without the help of the volunteers throughout the community. Church members who joined the committee directly assisted in the initial planning of the events that would take place. In addition, these members volunteered to lead a certain event, such as finding animals for the petting zoo or bands for entertainment. The community also became involved in this event. The Elementary schools advertised and fifth grade students volunteered to help with games. High school organizations, such as the Cross Country and Key Club, were both food vendors and participants. Many businesses were willing to participate in the event by donating gift cards and luxury items for the auction, and allowing us to advertise for free. Although planning for the Fall Festival was not effortless, it is satisfying to know that a community healfway across the globe will be blessed with a functioning water well.
