The Problem
Last year, I began a blog project called Twenty Five Days to Make a Difference (http://twentyfivedays.wordpress.com). I helped support different causes like Project Linus, National Safe House, Cheerful Givers, and the Pajama Project, in addition to others. I raised money, did service work, and I blogged about it to encourage my readers to do the same. In this way, technology helped support my work.
This month, I joined forces with Jenny Luca, a teacher from very far away--Australia! We have started a ning called Working Together 2 Make a Difference! This ning is an online community where teachers and students can work together to make a difference for their own causes.
This is exactly what I was hoping to inspire others to do, because there are a lot of problems in the world that can be improved when lots of people work together. Technology makes this easier, but many teachers and schools don't use technology as often and/or as well as they could because they don't have the training or the resources that could help them.
I am hoping that our ning will encourage students and teachers to use technology to help others. I am also hoping to win this grant so that I can donate the money to a cause that all of the members of our community agree on.
Plan of Action
Step 1: I created my blog called Twenty Five Days to Make a Difference in memory of my grandfather. You can visit it here: http://twentyfivedays.wordpress.com.
Step 2: I began meeting other teachers and their classes from all over the world because of my blog. One of them was Jenny Luca from Australia.
Step 3: Jenny, my mom and I started a Ning called Working Together 2 Make a Difference. This Ning is only one week old, but we already have lots of people joining from all over the world.
Step 4: Between now and December 15, 2008, students and teachers will work hard to make a difference in their own ways and share what they are doing in our Ning. This will help us share ideas, support each other, and spread the word.
