On Aug. 1, 2005, I founded a satirical sports organization for the obscure sport of finger jousting entitled the World Finger Jousting Federation (www.fingerjoust.com). What originally started as a small project turned into a successful organization dedicated to promoting athleticism in youth as I launched a successful website, had over seventy memberships internationally, appeared on various sports shows, and held three events. As the President of the WFJF, I have been in charge of managing the website, marketing, treasury, rules and regulations, events, and administrating the online forum. Throughout the process, I have learned a great deal concerning small business, e-commerce, public oratory, marketing, website web mastering, programming, delegation of authority, litigation, and general commerce. The website has around five thousand visitors a month and appears online and in other media including many websites dedicated to obscure sports and fun for children. I donate a large portion of our revenue to local philanthropic organizations like the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Children's Miracle Network. We also offer free tickets to members of the armed forces at our events since I am in the active duty Air Force and believe in helping the military as well. Tens of thousands have learned about the sport and the WFJF via our website, the media, and word of mouth, and I have heard and seen hundreds of kids enjoying this game.
