why it's important:

World To Form is a youth-led organization dedicated to one mission: finding hope in art.

Art therapy has proven to improve mental and emotional health, self-esteem, and reduce stress. We advocate the issue and important of human rights while focusing on art therapy/education.

The most important fact is that human trafficking and slavery can happen in our backyards. It is never just a distant or overseas issue, but it is truly a global and universal problem.

I founded the organization because of a human trafficking case in a nearby city I read about. There was no organization I knew about in the community that focused on human rights.

the plan of action:

Donate art supplies for the 110 youth at Covenant House Hollywood. FINISHED!

The grant gave us much-needed money to donate $600 worth of supplies to a shelter we felt is in good hands. The shelter has evening art lessons (which we plan to participate in soon), so we know that they understand the importance of art education and therapy. It completed Part 1 of our Operation Covenant House plan!
1. Our organization in the spotlight: we were contacted for an interview by a graduate student and Youth! offered us membership into their organization, which we gladly accepted. I don't think this would have been possible if our project were not awarded the grant. 2. Finally donating the art supplies! Our long-awaited donation set off the three-part collaboration with Covenant House. 3. Our involvement with Do Something: Do Something has become our go-to resource in resolving our troubles. The organization definitely would not have been pieced together without our members attending the Do Something Boot Camp, using the website's tips, and communicating with the helpful staff.
The project unfolded as more of a vision but simple things like new members or the Do Something Boot Camps helped us solidify our goal. We targeted Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking's (CAST) list of shelters for children in Los Angeles serving domestically trafficked children (http://thectrp.wordpress.com/social-services/). I hope our donation to Covenant House will result in a strong focus on the arts at the shelter, as well as serve as an overall inspiration to the youth at Covenant House. By working at a more local level, more opportunities and collaborations opened up to us. Our donation of art supplies is only the first of our three-part collaboration with Covenant House. The second part is interacting with the youth there in an art lesson led by our organization, joined by San Gabriel High's Art Club. The final part of the collaboration is an art gallery.
