Wounded Warrior Project

the problem:

I am trying to help severely wounded veterans financially because they cannot support their families like they could prior to the war.

vital stats:

people impacted:

3,000

people involved:

5

why it's important:

It is important to me because my friend's uncle is the founder of this program and this organization seems to be very helpful to the veterans. I think it is a great way to say 'thank you' to all the mena nd women who keep our country safe.

the plan of action:

In my highschool, my group of five students have been selling shirts to raise money and awareness of this organization.
In order to accomplish this fund raising campaign, I had to address the following issues:
• First, I worked with the school administration to gain permission to carry out this fund-raising plan.
• Second, I worked to design a t-shirt logo that would appeal to my classmates. I was not able to replicate the official logo of the organization and I had to minimize the design and colors in order to keep the cost of production low.
• Third, I met personally with multiple t-shirt printing companies to see if any of them would be interested in donating shirts for the cause or reducing prices. After extensive research, I discovered a local company that would reduce their prices. Once we had the colors picked out and our design in place, our group then had to get the shirt approved by our principal so we could be begin to sell them in school.
• Fourth, I had to organize my group to motivate our consumers and sell the t-shirts. I created sales packets for them. This included order forms and information about cost and payment.
• Fifth, I had to think about how to market these shirts. I decided to organize a mass text message blast and follow that with conventional methods of communicating within the school.
• Sixth, I had to work to consolidate the orders and bring that to our supplier.
• Seventh, I had to organize a delivery system to get the shirts to the students a staff by the week of November 9th.
• Eighth, I had to deliver the proceeds to “The Wounded Warrior Project”.

5. I think that our project was very effective in raising awareness of wounded veterans at our high school. I know that I have learned about wounded veterans and the issues and concerns that they face when they return home. I understand that they sometimes have to fight to gain support from the government for health related benefits.

I think that my school also benefited from this awareness campaign. Listed here are some of the quotes that people made to me during this project:
“This is a great idea, I would do anything to support the men and women who keep our country safe.”
“Am I allowed to buy more than one shirt because I would like to purchase one for my whole family. My husband and son are both on active duty and they will really appreciate this.”

how you can get involved:

Others can help by donating money to the Wounded Warrior Project.
