You are never too young to help those in need!

the problem:

This community project idea is trying to get young people to care about a sensitive subject: violence against women. Unfortunately rape and domestic violence are ugly issues that plague our society. However there are some service agencies that provide free counseling to the victims in the hospital. One such service is in my area. One of the best things to do is provide a care package to the women, containing a change of clothes and some toiletries and such. After being victimized and then having the hospital take their clothes, the women are more than traumatized. Yet they are most grateful to receive a care package when they were not expecting anything. However, these care packages are not cheap. This is where the community project idea comes into play. By doing odd jobs for people, probably mostly the elderly, donations can be raised. By collecting either money or materials for the care packages in exchange for doing odd jobs, the young people will feel they are truly helping the women. Not only that, if the youth are spending time helping the elderly, then it will be killing two birds with one stone!
