The Problem
The main issue that I am trying to resolve is helping those that are less fortunate or those who are in need of assistance due to health reasons. Through volunteering I believe that I can better my community and help those who are in need. I have been volunteering at St. Alexius Medical Center since February 2010 and have committed over 100 hours in service. By talking to patients and helping them get through their times of distress makes me feel as if I can truly make an impact in an individual’s life. By simply saying hello or how you are can really make an individual’s day. Small acts of kindness could really go a long way. In addition to volunteering at St. Alexius I also enjoy volunteering at “Feed My Starving Children”. Feed My Starving Children is a nationwide organization this is committed to preventing world hunger. Recently I helped pack about 2500 packs of food that could feed 26 children a full meal for a year. In my free time I also enjoy donating gently used clothes, books, and other necessities to my local Salvation Army to help those that are less fortunate. Finally, I also participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) walk to help those who are battling diabetes get closer to their goal of finding a potential cure.
Plan of Action
My plan of action is to continue volunteering and helping those that need it the most. Through volunteering not only do I leave an impact on someone’s life they also do the same for me. I carry their legacies and stories close to my heart. They are a true symbol of courage and I honor the fact that they have triumphed with honor.
