The Problem
Many youth in the city of Peabody don't have a safe, fun place to go after school because the city doesn't have a youth center. Middle and high school students need fun, productive activities. Since the middle school stopped offering shop, sewing and other hands-on classes, a lot of youth miss those things.
Plan of Action
We've run many different programs as part of the Youth Drop-In program, including art, games, drama, science and others. Now we want to start a program where kids can do hands-on building projects and donate them to Habitat for Humanity.
Last school year, attendance at the after-school drop-in program was 2,528.
