The Problem

We volunteer for our local fire and EMS department to improve the quality of life for our community. The department relies on volunteers and if it is not properly staffed, response times will not be quick and lives can be lost. We also train constantly because we can't help people if we don't know what we are doing.

Plan of Action

We serve a community of 19,478 residents and respond to over 2,000 calls per year. In order to do this effectively it is necessary to have a dedicated team. We train at least twice a week, we keep our certifications current, and we stay in good physical shape. We must maintain the trucks and supplies in good working order. In the Youth Explorer Program we train people 14 to 18 years of age and teach them to become EMS and fire service personnel. We are certified in CPR and First Aid and are required to take First Responder and EMS classes. At 16, you can be an ambulance attendant. At 18, you become a full department member. Currently I am President of the Explorers Group and a Team Captain during training drills. Team Captain are responsible for training younger and less experienced members of the group.
