The Problem

The purpose of the Fall District Conference is to prepare students from District Three for the Florida Youth In Government State Assembly. We are trying to encourage social and political awareness as well as community involvement. We hope to inspire an interest in government so that our generation will be involved in the electoral, legislative, executive, and informative processes of government. We want our generation to have improved social and public speaking skills. By encouraging heightened awareness and open mindedness, we battle ignorance and apathy.

Plan of Action

Before FDC, we will hold weekly officers' meetings in addition to our weekly club meetings. At these meetings we will plan and prepare delegates for the event. We will contact students using phone and internet and keep the group connected. We will encourage delegates to delve into their respective projects to prepare for the coming year. At FDC, we will set up activities for each program area so that each individual can become more comfortable with his or her branch of government. The Press Corps will publish a newspaper so that each program area can understand what the other program areas accomplished. The Legislative Branch will practice debate and finalize their bill topics for State Assembly. The Judicial Branch will continue case research and practice court room procedures. The lobbyist firms will discuss procedures for State Assembly and begin gathering information for bills. The Executive Branch will assist in each program area as well as being preparations for State Assembly. Delegates will become comfortable with the processes to insure success not only at State Assembly, but at the governmental level in the future.
