Youth Mic, WKCR 89.9 FM New York A teen radio program airing since June of 2005. With the technical support of fantastic WKCR staff, high school and middle school-aged Youth Mic producers create a weekly, live, half-hour talk show on issues important to teens, from Spoken Wordand Poetry to Pet Peeves to Metal Detectors in Schools. Youth Mic participants are students in New York City schools who have expressed interest in the program, usually with no prior radio or journalism experience. Most come from Harlem, Washington Heights, and Morningside Heights, though some commute from lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx as well, even Staten Island! At Youth Mic, students receive training in all aspects of public affairs radio and produce an incredible, unique show.
