The Problem

The problem I am trying to solve is youth violence and lack of mentoring for youth.

Plan of Action

To combat this, I believe more counseling and mentoring opportunities should be developed throughout social service agencies, religious organizations and schools. Currently, I have completed a documentary concerning violence prevention with The Woodlawn Organization which aired at the Ice Theater in Chicago. I started with them September 2009 - April 2010. I have been an advocate for teen violence prevention from 2007-2009 at the Ray of Hope Performing Arts Center. I volunteered for Ray of Hope Youth Advisory Board where we organized Annual Peace Summits, Youth Violence Prevention Seminars and developed/performed stage plays facing this issue and others. I wanted to give back to the school that has done so much for me. I graduated from eighth grade from New Sullivan Elem. School and wanted to show my gratitude. I volunteered to teach Drama and Life Skills during Summer 2009. Since 2006, every year I speak to the 7th and 8th grade classes to let them know how to behave and what to expect in High School. I assisted the instructor with 4th-8th graders. Working with them was so exciting and spiritually fulfilling. I constantly saw myself in a lot of them. I learned how to do this while taking courses at ACT One and working as an actress for Ray of Hope in their Performing Arts Center.
