The Problem

The Youth Wrestling program helps the community by keeping the youth off the streets. The youth wrestling program is a stepping stone to ending violence and gangs in the community of Quincy. The youth wrestling program is interconnected with the Quincy High School and Quincy Jr. High School wrestling programs. Therefore enforcing the same rules. One of the rules in order to stay eligible for any wrestling program you cannot fight or encounter any sort of violence inside and outside of school. The 2nd rule is you cannot fail any classes in school. The 3rd rule is you always listen to your parents, teachers, elders, etc. With these three rules the youth wrestling program ends the problems with 1. Gangs and violence. 2. Youth wrestlers are no longer failing any classes and if they are close to failing they are tutored after school by "21 century" or their teachers. 3. They are taught discipline, courage, and to become better leaders for tomorrow by abiding these three rules. During this program the youth wrestlers learn that nothing is ever given, its always earned with hard work!

Plan of Action

We rent the wrestling room from the Quincy High School to practice every Tuesday and Thursday's. I created and sent flyer's to schools, local stores, and the local hospitals to create awareness for the youth wrestling program. I needed to contact companies for singlets, head gear, and wrestling shoes. We also rent out the High School gym to create our annual Quincy Wrestling tournament and sent out emails to other youth wrestling clubs to create more competition and involving more communities in this event. At our annual wrestling tournament we invite about five other youth wrestling clubs from neighboring cities to have more competition and more support to our youth wrestling program. Mike Medrano contacts companies and successfully agrees to a sponsorships, to help pay off part of the rent, utility bills, reduce the cost for kids shoes, singlets, headgear, and advertisement. The High School wrestling team also comes in and helps coach/teach the younger kids how to properly wrestle and maneuver efficient techniques. -Other youth wrestling clubs/programs that wrestle at our annual Quincy wrestling tournament are: Cashmere, Cascade, Chelan, Pateros, WV mat cats, Wenatchee panthers, EWE (East Wenatchee Elite), Cle Elum, Sunnyside, Reardon, Moses Lake, and Tri-Cities.
