See It

After composing an essay and doing an interview, I became a volunteer at the San Diego Zoo. This gave me an opportunity to talk to the public about pressing environmental issues such as habitat destruction and climate change. With the help of "biofacts" - such as furs, tusks and feathers - I began to spread the word of endangered species around the world. But I also presented onlookers with small, simple solutions that have the potential to make real differences. I encouraged the need to be conscientous spenders, and only support organizations which are considerate to the health of the planet. I dispensed tips for conserving energy, such as replacing lightbulbs and moderating the use of appliances. I became involved in fundraiser programs, and even helped raise $1000 for the new elephant exhibit. After several months, I recieved the title of "trainer." At this post, I organized and guided my fellow volunteers, most of whom were rather timid in front of an audience. Later that year, I was hired as a student intern, and became a teacher's assistant for the summer program. I was responsible for an entire army of 5th graders, and my chores included carrying supplies, organizing activities, and keeping track of the squirming ten year olds. I was assigned to teaching one lesson every week. These usually focused on the duties of the zoo employees, and facts about zoo animals. As time progressed, I believed more strongly in my dream to make a difference, and my belief that we all have the potential to do so.
