The Saturday Brunch Program

Homebound residents in Larimer County, primarily Ft. Collins, Colorado have limited access to nutritious food. The Saturday Brunch Program would deliver a nutritious meal on Saturday morning. Most of these homebound residents have no access to grocery shopping and are unable to prepare meals for themselves. This delivery provides a meal for the participants to eat on the weekend, increasing their caloric intake, nutrient status, and overall well-being and satisfaction with food.

Communities In Action

Individuals want to volunteer, but they're not sure whom to call, or not sure where to look. Maybe they are worried volunteering would be boring, or that they’d get stuck doing something they wouldn’t enjoy. Maybe they are concerned that they don’t have enough time to truly make a difference.

New York 2 New Orleans Coalition

NY2NO has focused its efforts over the past 3 years on working with those most devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The poorest, and primarily black, residents of the city have been victim to not only a hurricane, but also to a structure of racism, classism, and systematic oppression that has been forced uppon them the neglect of our government. We have primarily worked in the Lower 9th ward, doing construction work and community organizing. Recently, however, we have expanded our horizons and are now working to bring what we have learned from New Orleans and apply it to our own communities.

City of Keller Animal Shelter Supply Drive, Change for Medical Care Drive and Ads for Pet Adoption

I'm trying to help out my citys Animal Shelter. I volunteer at the animal shelter every week walking dogs and playing with them. We also clean cages for cats and dogs. Our family has also fostered animals. I'm trying to help make the community more aware of pet adoptions and need for volunteers and donations.

Project CPR

There are so many situations where out of hospital cardiac arrests happen and there are not enough people certified in CPR to save the life of the person whose heart has stopped. Statistics from the American Heart Association say that 163,221 out of hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually in the United States. I want to make a change to this statistic. I am certified in CPR as an instructor at the health care provider’s level and my goal is to get more people certified in CPR and train them to respond to medical emergencies where cardiac arrest is a factor.

Home Clean-up Kits for fire Victims

143 families around Lansing Michigan lost their homes to a house fire last year. Even after a minor kitchen fire, the smoke and soot damage can be permanent if not cleaned and treated properly. Thousands of families in the area have no insurance and no alternative place to live. The do not have the resources or the knowledge for cleaning the smoke and soot from their homes.

Project Books and Blankies

In Southern California, four out of five third graders cannot read at grade level. This is a shocking statistic and studies have proven that children who fail to read at grade level by age nine rarely catch up. Because I believe that “no skill is more critical to the future of a child, or to the future of a democratic and prosperous society, than literacy,” I have focused my efforts in the community on this very serious problem. Among the reasons for this staggering rate of illiteracy are poverty, inadequate resources, and the absence of encouragement and positive role models.

Teen Green

Teen Green is a group of students who envision and carry out projects to preserve the environment, with the help of Uncommon Good's infrastructure and supervision. It gives youth a leadership voice in the community, and teaches them fund raising, community organizing, the principals of environmental science and business skills. It also provides them with the essential leadership and community service experience that is essential today for a student to be competitive for college.

Welcome To Rainbow's End

For the past year I have been working on the production of a short film titled: "Welcome to Rainbow's End". This film explores a friendship between a group of young gay people of color and their life/struggle in New York City . This project represents my dream of bringing to screen characters that mirror the lives of so many people whose stories are invisible. Thus far, I have successfully raised $1,330 to offset production costs and have also received equipment and technical support from organizations such as DCTV, PRO-TV and Alphabet Media.
